SCIENCE and mathematics will continue to be taught in both English and Bahasa Malaysia until 2015, when the final batch of students involved in the PPSMI (teaching of science and mathematics in English) programme complete their secondary education.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this approach would ensure academic achievements were not jeopardised.
He said the Education Ministry was mindful of the implications of the PPSMI policy change, especially for students who had been taught in both languages since 2003.
“This is why we have decided to take a ‘soft landing’ approach,” Muhyiddin, who is Education Minister, told Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP-Beruas).
In another development, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the ministry was helping untrained attachment teachers to become trained teachers.
“Those with teaching experience are much valued and we will find the best way to help them continue their education,” he told Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau).
Dr Wee said the ministry was handling as many as 65,000 course application requests.
He added that about 17,000 trained attachment teachers have been selected to fill the vacant teaching posts in schools across the country.

Salam Bro.
